How to make friends and influence people – F&E style!
At F&E, we count our blessings daily. Working with your (hilarious and often inspiring) bestie, as well as great clients that do really interesting and important stuff, is always cause for celebration. Recently we’ve been enlisted to work on a special project and made a couple of new friends.
By Sir Francis Day - Fauna of British India (Fishes, Volumes 1 and 2) via www.archive.org, Public Domain. We imagine our little F-nEMo looks a little bit like this guy.
Meet Nemacheilus huapingensis. Happy little F-nEmo (as we like to call him) is a species of ray-finned fish that is generally found in Huaping town, China. His name is derived from the Greek words for nema (filamant) and cheilos (lip). So, we’re guessing slender lips...? But those little lips are sure to be pouting because not much is actually known about F-nEMo. Which makes us a little sad.
Thankfully, there are people out there determined to discover more.
Like Duncan Farquhar, who introduced us to our beautiful little aquatic friend through EcoConnections – an Australian (Wagga, actually) based international project with a big, audacious goal to connect every species on the planet with a human friend, to foster deeper connections to our natural world and support taxonomy research identifying new species.
Through our work with Duncan and EcoConnections, we have learned that a whopping 70% of the species on our planet are unidentified. And if they’re unnamed, they are unknown. And as Duncan reminds us, if these species remain unknown to us, how can we possibly begin to truly understand the ecology we live in, much less help it to survive and thrive?
Recently, we enlisted the help of animator starlet Alice Peacock to bring to life a Christmas campaign focused on the real meaning of the season.
